Handy-Cap Plates

I saw this on Post Secret today.

"You mean the version with the actors in it?"

I've been watching a whole slew of DVDs that I've gotten over the past few months and I've been noticing trend in DVD production. This whole "Unrated Version!!" or the prestigious "Director's Cut" thing started off with good intentions, but in the last year or so I'm pretty sure that whatever footage they have added or omitted wasn't all that great or substantial in the first place. I just watched the Zodiac Director's Cut and um... didn't notice a difference. The Unrated Superbad DVD was maybe 2 or 3 minutes longer but I'm pretty sure it was one extra dick joke and some b-roll. Technically, if you were to say... take the rating away it would be "Unrated". If you were to get your director to sign off on his cut of the film it would be a "Director's Cut".*

*My "Alternate Ending!" of this blog is where I finish with a question mark instead of a period.

Top Five Favorite Movie Scenes

5.Dumbo - When I See An Elephant Fly

I like how racist this is without an ounce of obvious negative intent. I miss the times when people didn't worry so much about being politically correct. I also love this song.

4 Before Sunset - Car to the Airport

This one got me good. I don't know if it had to do with me or the movie. It's just really amazing how these two actors are able to pull something like this off. This movie and the one before it have many, many good scenes but this is classic.

3.Pulp Fiction - Adrenaline Shot

This one has sentimental value. I saw this in the theater with my parents when I was way too young to be seeing it. It was the single greatest movie experience I've had because my Mom and Dad could not have been more uncomfortable the whole 3 hours of this movie. This is the scene where my Mom tried to make me leave the theater. When she finally gets the needle in the heart my Mom just said "That's it. We're leaving." I wouldn't go. So, instead of making a scene in a crowded theater we sat through the rest.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Parade

I was recently discussing with someone whether or not it's possible for one person to achieve all the things in this movie in one day. This scene is burned into memory as the single greatest implausible movie moment just because it's so damn entertaining to watch.

1. Temple of Doom - Rope Bridge Finale

Oh sweet Lord, is this awesome. As if Harrison Ford wasn't enough of a badass. First, the way the guy who plays Mola Ram acts through this whole movie is brilliant but this is the icing on the cake. I love the line "They will be found! You wont!". Then when Indy cuts the rope he actually screams out "What are you doing?!" Priceless. Indy's line "Prepare to meet Cali... in Hell!" is just about the greatest thing ever. And the best part about this is that there's NO FUCKING WAY ANY OF THEM COULD HAVE SURVIVED THIS. Kudos to all of you involved in the making of this.

Runners Up:

I couldn't find the scene from Return of the Jedi where Lando Calrissian blows up the death star. Or from Forrest Gump where Forrest talks to Jenny's Grave, that one always gets me. Also....

It's embarrassing but I love this for some reason.

Bah, Fuck that.

I was gonna document my whole trip but that would take too long and I don't have the time or the patience to write it all down. Frankly, I don't think anyone really cares all that much.

If you really want to hear about it, and you're friends with me on Facebook, it's all there in pictures (close to 600 of them). They're in a series called Trans-Continental Odyssey. It was a lot of fun and so are the shots I got. You might want to focus on my collection of yellow warning signs showcasing various beasts that roam the highways (none of which I saw on the road at any point).
